A Scribes Journey
For more than 45 years Annie has worked as a visual artist, and has produced a large volume of work. This book is a collection of some of that work, with background information on historical figures who have influenced her, as well as many contemporary artists who continue to inspire. The book could be called an Art-O-Biography, as she includes details from her life that have inpacted her work. Her first lettering book, The Art & Craft of Hand Lettering, is now in its fifth printing. This new book is not a sequel; it’s more of a companion that shows the wide range of possibilities she has worked with over many years.

The Art & Craft of Hand Lettering
Originally published by Lark Books in 2004, The Art & Craft of Hand Lettering has become one of the most recommended books on the market for beginning to intermediate students. With a thorough coverage of the basics, as well as a number of traditional hands, it is a great book to supplement your teacher and to assist you in studying this craft on your own. It also includes a section on design and a number of projects that use your newly learned skills. In 2011 I reprinted the book through my own publisher, Bloomin Books. That edition has sold out, and a new version has been reprinted in 2018.
This slightly updated version has images of the historical manuscripts used as models for learning. These are high resolution reproductions from the British Library, showing enlarged details of the scripts. There is also a section on the fundamentals of reproducing your work, from the basics of design to processes ranging from simple photocopy to commercial lithography and letterpress. There is just enough information here to get you started with printers: basic vocabulary, digital formats and such, so that you have a bit more confidence in communicating with them. There are also a few new images squeaked in, as well as an updated cover photo.
Copies of my book are available through John Neal Bookseller.

An Old Woman's Survival Guide
This project, which you saw on the Lettering and Calligraphy page, has been reprinted and is now available for purchase. The times of isolation during the Covid pandemic have been hardest on many elderly, as they cope with loneliness, health and day to day living. Diana's poem struck a chord with me, and this has become not just a gift for our many friends, but also a way to share it with many others. It is available in two sizes, both which will fit in standard frames.
Recently, we just received the news that this print was juried into Letter Arts Review, the international quarterly journal of fine lettering. It is an honor to be part of this elite group, and I believe that the poem itself deserves this prize as much as my lettering.
The 11x14" size is $40.00, plus shipping; the 5x7" size is packaged in multiples of 5 for $20.00.
